The National Juneteenth 2nd Line to Honor Rev. John LC Mosley Sr. Set for June 19, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. — As America commemorates the 161st anniversary of Juneteenth, communities from across the nation will gather in the nation's capital for a powerful celebration of freedom, history, culture, and remembrance during The National Juneteenth 2nd Line in Honor of Rev. John LC Mosley Sr. on Friday, June 19, 2026.

Hosted by the National Juneteenth Observance Foundation, the event will bring together families, veterans, community leaders, musicians, historians, reenactors, and freedom advocates for an afternoon dedicated to honoring the enduring legacy of Juneteenth and those who have helped preserve its significance for future generations.

Celebrating 161 Years of Freedom

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been issued. The observance has grown into a national celebration of African American freedom, resilience, achievement, and progress.

This year's National Juneteenth 2nd Line serves as both a celebration and a call to remember the sacrifices made by generations who fought for liberty, justice, and equality.

Honoring Rev. John LC Mosley Sr.

The event is being held in honor of Rev. John LC Mosley Sr., whose dedication to community service, faith leadership, and cultural preservation has left a lasting impact. Organizers say the celebration reflects the values Rev. Mosley championed throughout his life—unity, education, faith, and community empowerment.

Participants will gather at the iconic Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for an assembly and rally featuring speakers, special presentations, and reflections on the continuing importance of freedom and civic engagement.

A Vibrant 2nd Line Celebration

At 4:00 p.m., the festivities will continue with the highly anticipated National Juneteenth 2nd Line Parade, led by Grand Marshal David Batiste Sr., renowned for his contributions to music and cultural traditions.

The 2nd Line tradition, deeply rooted in African American and New Orleans cultural heritage, is known for its spirited music, dancing, and community participation. The event will feature:
