Black History in the Making:
Dr. Angela K. Chambers, Founder & CEO, Building Legacy on Historic Greenwood

In Oklahoma, Black history is not only remembered—it is being rebuilt in real time.
Dr. Angela K. Chambers stands as a trailblazer in media, culture, and community revitalization as the Founder and CEO of The Greenwood Beat - WFPG. With the launch in 2023 of The Greenwood Beat, Dr. Chambers became Oklahoma’s first woman-owned and first Black woman-owned radio station owner operating in the business district of historic Greenwood Avenue in Tulsa—the original Black Wall Street.

This milestone is more than a personal achievement. It is a cultural restoration.

Reclaiming the Airwaves on Black Wall Street

Historic Greenwood Avenue has long symbolized Black excellence, resilience, and economic power. By placing a Black-owned radio station directly in the heart of this sacred district, Dr. Chambers reactivated Greenwood’s legacy through modern media—creating a platform that amplifies Black voices, Black businesses, Black stories, and Black solutions.

The Greenwood Beat - WFPG is not just a station; it is a community engine. Programming spans business development, faith, culture, civic engagement, music, and generational storytelling—broadcasting the past, present, and future of Black America from the very ground where history was once interrupted but never erased.

Collaboration Without Compromise

Like many visionary startups, the station launched with early collaborative support from Dr. Francetta Mays and Starr Fisher. Their contributions during the early phase reflect the spirit of community collaboration that Greenwood has always embodied.
However, the vision, leadership, ownership, and long-term stewardship of the platform rest firmly with Dr. Chambers.

Sole Ownership. Expanded Legacy.

Beyond The Greenwood Beat - WFPG (WFPG in honor of Angela's late grandmother, " Wilma Factory Phifer Green), Dr. Chambers is also the sole owner of The Original Black Wall Street, the second radio station operating on historic Greenwood Avenue. Through this growing media ecosystem, she has created a powerful infrastructure that includes radio, digital media, print publications, events, advertising, and cultural programming—all aligned with one mission:

"Rebuilding Black Wall Street—one beat at a time.”

A Living Chapter of Black History

Dr. Angela K. Chambers’ work represents what Black History Month is truly about:
▪️Ownership
▪️Vision
▪️Resilience
▪️Economic empowerment
▪️Legacy building

She is not simply honoring history—she is actively writing it, ensuring that Greenwood Avenue remains a living, breathing hub of Black excellence for generations to come.
